Organic Ceramic

Exploring tailored bioregional handcraft as an alternative to world-wide industrial production is central to our activity. We naturally teamed up with Central Saint Martins Ceramic Department in London to explore biobased ceramic, its speculative sourcing, production and promising qualities. What are the new aesthetics and properties of biobased ceramic, using organic biomass residues and ceramic as bonding material?

The project is based on the following research question: how can we address the end of life of ceramic objects, using organic biomass that are by-products of industry? Can the new bonding material have a wider application, such as architecture, to form multiple symbiotic relationships between industries? Organic biomass residues as food scraps, calcium from fish industries, fibres from agriculture will be explored and tested.
