GRØDE: Program for Biomaterial Innovation

The GRØDE program is an incubator concept designed to accelerate innovation in biodegradable materials. We achieve this by assisting companies and innovators in developing solution ideas and bringing them to the market. The goal is to develop viable ideas that can be turned into startup companies.

Program Overview

Selected projects will spend 8 months developing innovative solutions, transforming organic waste into valuable materials, aiming to reduce waste and reliance on fossil-based materials.

Program Phases

GRØDE consists of four key phases, each focusing on different aspects of material development, prototyping, and business modeling.

Industries

Targeting construction, furniture, agriculture, and aquaculture, GRØDE addresses the substantial amounts of organic waste in these sectors.

We are looking for Enablers to submit a project proposal or innovation challenge and Innovators to join the team in developing biodegradable materials and products.

Are you an Enabler or an Innovator?

If your company aims to reduce its carbon footprint, extract value from organic waste streams, or replace fossil-based materials, we invite you to apply as an Enabler by submitting a project proposal or innovation challenge. This is an opportunity to turn expenses into assets and actively contribute to a circular economy.

Benefits for Enablers

Control over Your Innovation Challenge

As an enabler, you can take control over the problem that innovators will work on.

Social Responsibility and Profiling

Show your customers and other stakeholders that you take social responsibility and want to play an active role in enabling green and sustainable transformation.

Enhancement of Innovation Process Competence

Gain increased knowledge and expertise in a successful innovation process and find inspiration to handle your future challenges. The program will serve as a continuing education pathway in innovation specifically tailored to your company.

Tailored Innovation

You submit a challenge, and we assemble a team to solve it.

Talent Network

Join a collaborative and talent network where you can position your company as an attractive player in the green shift.

Competitive Advantage

The Bioregion Institute has a team of dedicated individuals who will be your key partners in helping you replace fossil-based materials and products in your industry. This will give you a competitive edge in the green shift.

Positioning

The right to participate in the first round of funding for any potential startup companies.

If you specialize in developing materials, products, or system solutions using residual organic raw materials, or if you have ideas that need further development, join GRØDE as an Innovator. Enhance your competencies, be part of the entire innovation process, and receive a certificate along with the chance to pitch your project to potential investors.

Benefits for Innovators

Mentorship
Personal advice and follow-up from experts in design, business development, research, and innovation.

Market Connection
Access to organic residual materials for biomaterial development and potential customers for new solutions in the built environment, finished products, and industry.

Community and Facilities
Become a member of a professional material development and design environment with a workplace, biodesign lab, and access to a makerspace at Laksevåg Verft.

Education and Workshops
Training programs and workshops on various business-related topics led by industry experts with specialized knowledge in the field of bioinnovation.

Professional Network
Participate in a network of research and development environments, investor communities, and businesses within bioinnovation.

Validation and Credibility
Participation lends credibility to a startup company, making it more attractive to investors and customers.

Exposure
Opportunity to present your idea to a broader audience, potentially leading to new customers and partnerships.

How to Apply

Enablers: Submit your project proposal or innovation challenge.

Innovators: Submit your resume and motivation letter.

Participate in GRØDE and contribute to the transition towards a circular sustainable society.
